When I decided to start a blog last year, I didn’t really think that it would be much of a big deal. I knew many casual bloggers out there, and none seem to be too serious about it. They defintely did not get any blogging advice. They just wrote down what they wanted to, whether it was relationship blogs, marketing and advertising reports, or just personal information about their day-to-day lives. Some are professional bloggers themselve and some are of other jobs. All of them, however, seemed to take a pretty laid-back approach to making sure their site look good.

In retrospect I wish that I got some good advise before I started. Starting a blog is not as easy as I had thought. First of all, you have to deal with layout issues. One of the hard facts about Internet blogging is that people are not going to read your blog unless you have something intersting to tell the reader. A webpage that looks completely dull and has bad layout is going to make eyes glaze over no matter what you have to say.

Another area I could have used blogging advice on was getting hits. My personal blog was also part of my business. I was sort of combining multiple features into it. On the one hand, I wanted a blog that can use it as semi public journal. I use it as a mean to inform all my friends on what I am up to. On the other hand, however, I wanted to be able to inform people of developments in my business. I run a business out of my home, and there’s a lot of overlap between my professional and personal life. Good blogging advice would have helped me to create a webpage that was both informative for my clients, and also interesting for my readers, and one that will receive high quality number of hits.

Yahoo and google are the 2 most popular search engines. I have yahoo which I use daily. The yahoo search bar is always readily available and I will use it from time to time. However, most of the time, I will go to the trouble of opening another different window to do google search. When it comes to search I am also not sure why I prefer google over yahoo. It is indeed very very strange. When it comes to email, the reverse is true. I prefer yahoo over gmail. I have accounts for both of them. I do not check my gmail often. My Yahoo is always at the top and I use it almost for everything.

One reason for why I prefer the google search over yahoo search may be that google offers one nice big page with a simple search box, where the yahoo box is so crammed up at the top. Perhaps I prefer the clean search look.

I would not ever use msn search. Long time ago I had given up on msn and hotmail. My first email account was a hotmail account. However, I was bombarded with so much spam and junk mail, that I abandoned my account and switched over to yahoo.

I’m almost tempted to make myself use yahoo search for a day or maybe even a week, just to see how satisfied I am with the results. However, I will just keep 2 windows open. I would have to cross check all of my yahoo search results with a google search, just to be very sure that the information I got is correct.

It’s strange how some features appeal to one person, while others appeal to someone else. However, when it comes to search engines, it seems that google i still the king.
